Off the 'ook!
OK so I've been watching the English version of Big Bruvva over here, but I'm trying to learn proper English, pick up a bit of the mother tongue as it were. Eg. 'You are bang out of orda', 'Geeza', and using 'well' as a prefix to lots of things i.e. 'she was well fit'. But then if she is more fit than that, she is 'off the 'ook'. Still with me?
No-one understood me while travelling, due to a combination of my natural mumbling (a cunning ploy devised to blend me into the background noise if needed) and my Nu Zilund-isms. I had to learn how to speak 'International English' - speak SLOWLY, and CLEARLY, and don't throw in too many colloquialisms. All good fun, but was frustrating at times, especially when I was talking to other English speakers. Made for some interesting conversations.
Have finally found a local cafe round here - a little Georgian place down on Broadway that does £0.80 espressos, plays good music, and I can sit there and read the paper. However, I may have been having coffee a little too much in the last two days and it has been causing havoc with my sleep patterns. This is due to my reading about professional athletes using caffeine as a performance enhancing substance prior and during races. There is a possible ban on it expected out by the governing body/anti-doping agency. So after my coffee yesterday (and not having had any for so long) I proceeded to walk halfway across London with my TravelCard in my pocket - I think I got a bit excited. But that lead me to a Tesco's (supermarket) on Regent St, and 5 jam filled sugar donuts for £0.54. Sez had recomended these and I found them to be not too shabby at all. Demolished them and washed it all down with a V. Go the sugar! Go the caffeine!
This morning I was up at 5.30am slightly hungover from a few Guinness's last night and pretty keen on a glass od the old lime encrusted water. I knew that it was early because the neighbour had got up to pack his overloaded and over-dimensioned car and trailer, and sneak off before the traffic (and possibly the cops - just like old times). But then again, as well as the coffee it is also the fact that the sun is getting up at around 4.30 - Maui was so much more responsible in looking after the sun than the dude over here. The trick is to not sleep with your curtains semi-open as I like to do, but just go complete blackout. Not to mention a good diet.
