back to life, back to reality

Well after all that it was a pretty reasonable Xmas, pretty decent weather, and good company. I decided that I liked Sydney and Bondi and the whole feel of the place - missed Paris Hilton showeing at Bondi Beach doing a bit of promo work for some new blonde beer - won a few games of the old Trivial Pursuits - Traveller style. Was a good version where you could gazump someone else's pie, and each colour was a different continent. Did a bit of Xmas shopping for myself, some new t's and shorts. Pretty successful present buying - a wormfarm for Anna and aDavid and whanau, and some canvas prints of photos for the olds of Seatoun and the old homestead. Managed to catch up with the cousins from ACT. Altogether a pretty good time.

Next up was a bit of R and R time with the boys up in the Coromandel. Just the 3 of us this year - Mark, Mike and Me. Excellent times, just chilling at some pretty cool beaches, a classic summer gig of Shihad and the Datsuns (the Datsuns kicked Shihad's arse in the live-off stakes, mainly because Shihad's new album is shit), and more subdued New Year mainly due to lack of enthusiasm, and probably numbers, and then into a reasonable night in Whitianga township with a lock in at the local Irish Bar - except they didn't know it was a lock in, and didn't serve us drinks. the (eligible) boys were pretty subdues on the ladies front, but it was a good catch up and there's always time for that.

Since then i've been off to Anaura Bay an hour north of Gisborne camping with my sister, and then up to Whangamata for a couple of days to round off the holiday. Also caught up with my bro and whanau, went to a Blues, Brews and BBQs, and watched/listened to some cricket (threatening yet constantly disappointing) - it wouldn't be a real summer without cricket.

Now the holiday is almost over and it's back to work - doing a few odd jobs around Tauranga, and then seeing what happens with my PhD interview, and a possible MfE one? We'll see, but I have to work hard.

Sounds pretty cool #9, So are you going to Sydney, would you consider going even if you don't do the PhD?
