The Bondi Christmas, Part Uno.
Well it’s almost Xmas, and it’s been a different one already. We have a very eclectic bunch of people this year round, I’ve called them ‘the misfits’. The long lost aunty and uber-geek son in tow, the two of my sisters with the most preferable disposition for arguments, a bunch of kids used to getting their own way, tired parents, and me…
It’s been a bit wet already, but that hasn’t stopped me from swimming. And today I went for a run almost down to Coogee, possibly about 10 km all up, including a swim at Bondi on my return, whereupon I as too dog-tired to even bother trying to stay afloat. Interestingly, the water temperature has been down on what we’ve experienced at the Mount. Plenty of surfers around, got me interested in having another go, don’t think my hosts have a board and wettie though, so that could make things a bit tough.
Am looking forward to a Pimm’s when the sun kicks in – maybe booze will solve the brain malaise I am currently experiencing.
Having sussed it out for a day or two now, I’ve decided that Sydney is definitely a place I could make my home for the next little while. I have an interview with Sydney University professors on the 29th to find out about, and get quizzed on, my scholarship application for Port Stephens. I’m a bit nervous about this ‘interview’ – it’s going to be a bit different to a job interview in that my intellectual abilities will be really under the microscope. Hence the nervousness – can I do it? That is exactly why I wanted to apply, to challenge myself to find these things out.
Anna and Dave have made me feel right at home. I quite like the look of the Bondi/East Coast scene. And to make things more interesting, there seems to be an abundance of bronzed goddesses here, it’s about time I acted a bit more interested in that department. A change of scene and lifestyle would be just the tonic.
To be continued…
