London
Well, I have been in London for...some time now. I arrived here on May 14 in jandals and shorts only to be bitterly and somewhat chillingly disappointed with the 'summer'. Four days later I was on the Greek Island of Paros once more lazing around on some Mediterranean (or Aegean) beaches. My quest for an endless summer continues.
So yeah, we got back from Greece after breaking free from the thronging massess at the Acropolis and Parthenon amid a succession of rain squalls, and arrived back here in London on the 26th to a 30 degree day! Couldn't believe it. It was actually hotter in London than in Athens. And then the olds arrived...
Tourism once more - Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey, numerous walks along the Thames - it can take you awhile to get your bearings over here. Longer than Mexico - towns over there have a zocalo (town square) and cathedral in the centre of town and then all the streets extend out in a grid fashion from there numbered east, west and north, south. Easy. London is just alleys, shortcuts and curved streets all over the place. The only reason I take a backpack with me is so I can take all the maps - bus routes, A-Z, pocket maps etc...and of course the essential iPod, so you can blend in with the other commuters. But to do that properly, you have to stare straight ahead and look as if the world is about to cave in around you. Everyone over here is so harried - I still have my jandals on.
Was excellent to see Ma and Pa again, but also strange in that it wasn't so long ago it was just the three of us at their house in the Mount. They then went off to Turkey and Greece for a few weeks and are expected back towards the end of this month. I am hoping to have a job by then (and its not going to be development planning) and be earning some good £'s...
Bring on the money, but more importantly - bring on the beach holidays and the chance to go snorkelling!
Oh yeah, this is my new 'group email', so keep checking up and I hope to have some more trip photos up soon.
Sweet.
